Overview 

We are looking for a Director of Product Development who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to work closely with the CPO, VP of Product Development and a team to build and implement a rolling 3-year innovation pipeline from concept to launch.  Our ideal candidate has a high level of agility, energy and technical expertise plus a proactive mindset, curiosity, and a passion for the beauty industry.

The ideal candidate has developed top performing color cosmetics and skincare products within the prestige or celebrity beauty space and has expertise in relevant trends and innovation, ingredients and clean product development.  This position will be responsible for the innovation, development, evaluation and execution of new product development and formula improvements across multiple product categories. 


What You’ll Do 

  • Drive day-to-day development of all new launches (core and promotional) with external partners 

  • Partner with Project Management to develop and communicate timeline expectations and key milestones to vendor and ensure timing is met 

  • Create disruptive product concepts in close collaboration with the CPO and VP of Product Development and Innovation and Founder that generate new opportunities for brand growth 

  • Write development briefs and product profiles with both conceptual and technical expertise 

  • Lead weekly meetings and efficient project management with contract manufacturing partners  

  • Travel to contract manufacturers for on-site formula development, shade matching, pilot/scale up, and production batching, as needed  

  • Oversee safety and stability testing to ensure product requirements are met 

  • Drive cross functional communication with Packaging, Regulatory, Marketing, Finance and Operations to define product concepts, budgets and all necessary deliverables for completion of all development programs 

  • Manage consumer insight data into product concepts, manage validation testing, claim testing and sensory testing to ensure all claim, ingredient stories and messaging are consistent to performance 

  • Partner closely with external R&D labs, contract manufacturers. Attend meetings with contract manufacturing partners and travel as-needed for on-site visits to Contract Manufacturers to approve/provide feedback on sample submissions /batch approvals (LA-based, East Coast and International) 

  • Facilitate cross-departmental coordination to ensure crucial aspects of product development are communicated with Marketing, Operations, Sales, Legal and Global Product Safety 

  • Attend industry events, trade shows and supplier meetings to stay abreast of innovation/trends and technologies  

  • Manage and report all clinical, sensory and consumer testing for products in development 

  • Work with team to ensure compliance with all regulations 

  • Understand Haus Lab’s product portfolio and continuously analyze productivity, category assortment and recommendations 

  • Responsible for completing competitive analysis monthly, highlighting relevant trends, consumer insights and opportunities across and skincare categories 

  • Assist with resolution of quality or production issues to ensure on-time launches 

  • Manage new and/or reformulation development across multiple color cosmetic projects (various product formats) concurrently 


What We Are Looking For 

  • 8+ years of beauty product development experience with an emphasis on prestige color cosmetics. Skincare experience is a plus 

  • Proven track record driving successful product launches from concept to customer 

  • Leadership experience mentoring manager-level direct reports 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

  • Strong project management skills and cross-functional communication to ensure projects meet timelines and budget 

  • Have a passion for making data-driven decisions regarding product 

  • Must be organized, have impeccable attention to detail and a strong multitasker 

  • Must be a strategic thinker, flexible, self-starter, and possess an entrepreneurial spirit 

  • Team player, reliable partner, and collaborative thinker is a must 

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to 25% as needed 

  • Ability to be in office 3 to 4 days per week
